Paco Pérez and the Jover brothers launch themselves in the time of the coronavirus with their version of grilled chicken.
We entered Chickoa, Paco Pérez's new restaurant located in the heart of Barcelona's Sant Antoni neighborhood. We sat at table number nineteen, at the back of the restaurant, in a relaxed and cozy environment, naughty but honest. We are surprised to see the transparency with which the cooks season the protagonists: the chickens!. And who would have thought that the traditional pollo a l'ast could give so much of itself? The bet by Paco Pérez and the Jover brothers affirms the success of simplicity when fresh, leisurely and traditional cuisine is respected. And the new vision brought by the award-winning chef with five Michelin stars Paco Pérez has excited us.
Farm chicken from l'Empordà is the star ingredient in Paco Pérez's proposal, which is pampered with a mixture of more than fifteen fresh herbs and wines from the northern area of the Catalan coast. "A Mediterranean-style roasted chicken with the uniqueness of grilling it, which gives it different nuances." But a great haute cuisine is not satisfied, and with the purpose of "giving versatility to all parts of the chicken with a special and fun approach", Chickoa has an extensive menu: from crispy and creamy croquettes to the aromatic sourdough focaccia, passing through the hamburger or wings with personality and... spicy.
All we have to do is say bravo! Well done! for those brave who launch themselves into new businesses despite the circumstances. Well done! for those who, respecting the traditional product, create such tender and juicy dishes (don't forget to try the picantón cooked in vacuum and low temperature, it dazzled us)

TV3 program presented by Marc Ribas in which several restaurants from all over Catalonia compete
“Card Game” is a TV3 program presented by Marc Ribas in which several restaurants from all over Catalonia compete. Each week four restaurants from the same area and with the same type of cuisine face off. The owners of each restaurant are the judges and must assess the competition, while Marc Ribas has the deciding vote to determine which restaurant is the best of the four.
Marc Ribas is also the presenter of the TV3 program “ Cuines ”. Before coming to television, Marc worked in the kitchens of restaurants such as Vitrium, Can Ferran, Capritx or Matís. The last two with a Michelin star. Marc Ribas , taking advantage of his knowledge and experience in the kitchens of large restaurants, will have a prominent role throughout each episode: he will be the judge who will determine the final classification and the winner.
During the competition, not only will the gastronomic proposal of each establishment be taken into account, but the space, service, cuisine and price of the restaurant will also be assessed. This competition is the adaptation of the “My restaurant rocks” format , a program promoted by Red Arrow International that has already been adapted in Italy, Germany and France.
The winner will take home a prize of 5,000 euros to invest in their own premises . In addition, they will look for which participating establishment is the most sustainable and the one that makes the most efficient use of water, to become the winner of the Agbar Blue Seal .
The 12 winners of the Agbar Blue Seal will play a fundamental role in the last program of the season, as they will become judges of a great meal cooked by three hospitality schools that will compete to be the best in Catalonia.
In this third season, the program's van will visit Catalan regions that it has not yet visited and will delve into local gastronomy thanks, as always, to the restaurateurs of each area. They will climb to the Vall d'Aran to discover the gastronomic offer that is available at more than a thousand meters of altitude. They will cross the Port de la Bonaigua to reach Pallars and enjoy the most charming restaurants in Sobirà and Jussà. They will travel to Ponent, towards Urgell, to discover the restaurants that are inland, they will stop at the Segarra plateau and continue the route to Ribera d'Ebre and Terra Alta, regions with roadside establishments. They will pass through Alt Penedès, where 4 restaurants will compete to be the best establishment in the land of wine and cava, and they will arrive in Barcelona and its metropolitan area (l'Hospitalet and Baix Llobregat) to discover restaurants that offer everything from hamburgers to menus for less than 15 euros, including gastronomic offers of DO products. Following the route, they will arrive in Maresme, land of peas and good restaurants that work with them, and they will go up to Berguedà, where they will find establishments where they can eat and rest to continue and recover their strength and discover the restaurants with the most personality in Pla de l'Estany.
Twelve regions, 48 restaurants, laughter, tears, tension, excitement, effort, sacrifice, gastronomy and lots of rock & roll, to make for a brutal “Card Game” season!

Catalan gastronomy is part of the identity of Catalonia and is an element of differentiation and of great tourist interest.
Catalan cuisine is more than a collection of delicious experiences, it has become a gastronomic model to follow. The culinary world has turned its attention to our kitchens. This is evidenced by the award that Catalonia received as European Region of Gastronomy 2016, promoted by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food through Prodeca and the Department of Business and Knowledge , through the Catalan Tourist Board as well as many entities in the field of agri-food and wine and food tourism.
The distinction wanted to highlight the different European food cultures, extend education for healthy and sustainable eating, promote gastronomic innovation and ultimately contribute to a better quality of life for people.
Furthermore, Catalonia European Region of Gastronomy 2016 had the objectives of positioning local agri-food products as a unique exponent of the territory and as the basis of a cuisine that brings a particular accent to the culture; positioning Catalonia for its products, its cuisine and as a food and wine tourist destination.
