The Designation of Origin (DO) is a geographical indication that guarantees the origin and quality of a wine that is made from certain varieties and with previously established wine, oenological and aging practices. A regulatory council of the Appellation of Origin ensures compliance with the regulations, keeps the register of winegrowers and adhered wineries, controls production and verifies the quality of vintages and wine.
The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is the name that identifies a product originating from a particular place (a region or exceptionally a country), whose quality or characteristics are mainly or exclusively due to a particular geographical environment, with the inherent natural and human factors and with phases of production, transformation and elaboration carried out entirely in the defined geographical area.
The Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin covers an area of 17,629 hectares, of which 1,930 are planted with vines and cultivated by nearly 600 winegrowers. Administratively, 9 of the 23 municipalities of the priorat region are part of the QDO Priorat.
The Guaranteed Traditional Specialty (GTS) is a certification with specific characteristics that recognizes, by registering in the Community Register, an agri-food product that has a traditional composition or that has been obtained from traditional raw materials or through a traditional production or transformation method.
Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) is the name that identifies a product originating from a particular place, region or country, which possesses a certain quality, reputation or other characteristic that can essentially be attributed to its geographical origin, and of which at least one of the phases of production, transformation or elaboration is carried out in the defined geographical area.
The Q mark for food quality (Q mark) is a trademark owned by the Government of Catalunya that is granted to agri-food products that have differential characteristics set by a specific regulation, that meet the requirements of the higher degrees of the current regulations on agri-food quality and that are certified by external entities.
Singular Product is considered to be the one that stands out for its unique characteristics that distinguish it from the rest and that is rooted in a specific territory where it is produced or made. The particularities of unique products may be due to factors such as tradition, innovation and quality.
