Alt Solsonès potato
Alt Solsonès benefits from the altitude of the cultivated areas and the quality of the land to produce a late potato of excellent quality and very tasty.
The potatoes of Alt Solsonès are, for many years now, the main garden product of the town of Odèn. Production reached an important volume during the second half of the twentieth century, since by the 1950s and 1960s the demand for potatoes came essentially from the Plain of Vic, an area to which practically all production was sent. But in the last quarter of the century, the depopulation of the area and the progressive abandonment of agricultural activities were reducing potato production, although it still retains great prestige for its quality.

Complementary information
Oden's potato production is sold for approximately two or maximum three months after harvest. It is packaged in bags of 15 kg and bags of 3 kg and distributed in Solsonès, Bages, Vallès and Barcelonès. It is labeled under the name "Mountain potatoes. Cambrils and Odèn (Alt Solsonès)". In Solsonès, the Odèn potato is appreciated and those who know it ask for it, but the limits of its distribution make it difficult to access.
Attributes and nutritional properties
Oden potatoes are late-harvest and are grown on land above 1,000 meters altitude. The varieties produced are kennebec (white), red pontiac (red) and buffet (white). The texture is hard and its volume very variable. The external appearance of the potato is less smooth and regular than in other productions. The seed usually begins to be planted around mid-June: the week of San Juan is usually the most intense of the planting process, which can last until the beginning of July. Harvested around October, the potatoes remain stored until the end of January and February, when their commercialization begins.
