Castellfollit del Boix beans
This legume is native to the municipality of Castellfollit del Boix and its cultivation has been known since the sixteenth century. It has had the regional denomination of food product of Bages since 1994.
Native and originally from the municipality of Castellfollit del Boix in the Bages region, the Castellfollit bean stands out for its fine and balanced texture, its shiny and firm skin and its good resistance to cooking.
The first crops of this bean variety date from the sixteenth century, and it is a type of bean well adapted to the dry sun and the climate of the Bages region. The harvest takes place in July and part of August, but its good resistance and conservation in the plant means that it can be harvested later. The bean from Castellfollit del Boix stands out for its marked corn flavor and for a slight aroma reminiscent of potatoes. Traditionally, it has been used for meals in which the bean is combined with grilled sausage or bacon, but it also works with omelette and quisada with onion or mushrooms.
