Roca's cherries are a typical crop of the whole term of Arenys de Munt and is a variety introduced to the municipality at the end of the nineteenth century from the Empordà by two mining brothers who were called Roca by surname and who had gone to work there.
With a taste that combines sweetness and acidity, the Roca's cherries is a fruit highly appreciated for the hardness and resistance of its meat. We recognize it for its pale yellow tone and for its round heart shape. Its texture is fine, and the cocoon green and thick. It also has high value organoleptic quality. Roca's cherry has a large, woody stone. It is a cherry of considerably large dimensions. This is one of the later varieties of cherries, and can be found on the market from the end of June to the end of July. Originally from maresme, and specifically from Arenys de Munt, Roca's cherries has been the protagonist of the municipality since the nineteenth century, when the Roca brothers, by mining profession, introduced the variety from Northern Catalonia and the Empordà.
It is sold in market stores of the Arenys de Munt market and in one of the neighboring towns.
