The climatic and orographic conditions of the Maresme have a favorable impact on the quality of the strawberries produced there. From the 1960s, there was a great explosion of strawberry production in the region, but from 1980 it begins to decline in the face of competition from other producing areas.

Intense red colour, with a very sweet taste and a touch of acidity, a fleshy texture and a pleasant aroma. The strawberry of Maresme, due to the microclimate and the orography of the mountainous area of the region, has an enviable quality. Grown in sloping soils, which provides a greater angle of incidence of the sun's rays, and with orographic conditions with great drainage capacity, the plant can develop better and offer greater quantity and quality of strawberries. From the sixties of the last century, strawberry production grew in the region, but since the eighties, competition from other producing areas led to lower production.

These fruits are widely marketed in the indoor market, where it is found in greengrocers. A small part of the production is also dedicated to export.

Due to their particular composition, they have a beneficial diuretic effect in case of hyperuricemia or renal gout and lithiasis.
