Product recovered from unique qualities
Despite its delicate texture and taste, this unique product was discontinued due to the appearance of new improved and more productive varieties.
In 2012, the project to recover the cultivation of col brotonera in the agricultural fields of the Vallès Occidental began from a rigorous process of selection and improvement of the preserved varieties that have returned to the product their best qualities.
Col brotonera is a variety with elongated leaves that has multiple nutritional properties and culinary possibilities. It is customary to eat fresh, boiled and seasoned with a drizzle of oil or passed through the pan with bacon and beans. As in most leafy vegetables, their high content of folic acid stands out, highly recommended during pregnancy, as well as vitamins A and C, potassium and fiber.
"Brotons" and spikelets are two parts of the col brotonera that correspond to different phases of its growth: during the months of October and November the shoots grow with a lot of leaf, the buds, and in January, before flowering, the spikelets appear, which can be harvested until March.
