Brandy coquette

The tradition of confectionery in Terres de l'Ebre has always been associated with homemade production. There is a huge variety of products that adapts to the traditions and ways of doing things of each town.

The flirtatious is round and flattened in size. It has a golden color characteristic of the cooking process. Its size is quite similar to that of any cookie. To make the coquettes, three parts of olive oil, one of brandy, one of mistela, half of a glass of sugar and finally the wheat flour are used. There are people who make it by adding a beaten egg. In a bowl, first place the three glasses of olive oil, a handful of sugar, depending on the sweetness you want, an egg well beaten and mix. Then add brandy and if you want mistela. Everything should be very well stirred, that the sugar melts a little. In the end if he adds the flour, little by little so that it does not make lumps. This cookie, in principle, does not dry out. A flirtatious can last a month or a month and a half.

Complementary information

Coqueta, like other pastas, were taken to bake in the communal oven, since in the past the houses did not have an oven to bake them. The pastries were made for the holidays, such as: the Pilgrimage of La Fontcalda, the "Festes Majors", Easter or Christmas. They passed the ingredients and left them a few hours to swell and reach the optimal volume to be baked. Although production has been declining, coqueta, caps and redots were very typical of when it was still going to be mowed.

Attributes and nutritional properties

Nowadays, not many confectionery products are made of them, the people of the village have been losing their habit. However, there are still about 10 women in the village who still make it. They are the ones who also participate in the elaboration of confectionery in celebrations such as the festa major or the festival of brandy. Bot and Paüls are also flirtatious. They have always been made for self-consumption, but currently in Prat de Comte they can be bought during the brandy festival in early October.
