Cherry of the Ribera de l'Ebre

Select sweet fruit, of early ripening, with an important presence in the cultivated areas of the region, specifically about 500 cultivated hectares. During the 1960s and with the modernization of agriculture, large cherry plantations were developed, previously associated with subsistence fruit growing, and became a very dynamic crop in the area.

These are early cherries, especially those of the mocked variety, which is the most cultivated in the area. They have a rounded shape, small stone, and pulp of a soft and not very resistant consistency.

Attributes and nutritional properties

This summer fruit has hundreds of different varieties. It is rich in fructose and provides significant amounts of fibre that help intestinal transit. What really stands out are the polyphenols, excellent antioxidants, and the levels of potassium, a mineral necessary for the transmission of the nerve impulse, for muscle activity and to regulate water inside and outside the cells of our body. Present in small proportions are vitamin C, which plays an important role in the synthesis of collagen and immune function, as well as acting as an antioxidant, and provitamin A or carotene, which once synthesized in our body is transformed into vitamin A, necessary for the good condition of the retina and skin (both internal and external).
