Aromas of Montserrat

With a production originally dedicated to the consumption of the monks of the Monastery of Montserrat and their pilgrims, this 31º distilled liqueur of herbs reached rapid popularity thanks, in part, to its digestive properties.

The recipe for this golden distillate includes, in addition to water, sugar and alcohol, twelve herbs that can be collected in the Montserrat massif, including thyme, juniper, lavender, cinnamon, spice carnation and coriander. The herbs are distilled in copper stills and alcohol and water are added to them, and after passing through a coil, sugar. It is marketed after an aging process. It is usually taken after meals due to its digestive properties.

Attributes and nutritional properties

Like any distillate, it provides a large amount of alcohol and sugars, as well as small amounts of the compounds of the herbs with which it is made: thyme, juniper, lavender, cinnamon, spice carnation and coriander. It is, therefore, a drink with a high energy content. Moderate alcohol consumption helps control cholesterol levels by increasing HDL (good cholesterol) levels and decreasing levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides. In addition, it promotes blood circulation at the coronary level. The maximum recommended consumption of this type of drink is 100 ml per day, which corresponds to a couple of sips, and always after eating, since its function is mainly digestive.
