The climatic conditions of the soil and the altitude of the crops, at more than 1,000 m, at the foot of the Prades mountain range, in the Baix Camp region, as well as the long tradition in the cultivation of this tuber, whose importance dates from the nineteenth century, confer characteristics to the Prades potato.
Prades potatoes are sold conditioned in breathable paper bags of 2 and 5 kg capacity. The label will include, in addition to the mentions required by current legislation, the legend "Patatas de Prades. Protected Geographical Indication", the logo of this geographical indication and the Community logo of geographical indications. It is sold in greengrocers throughout the country.
It is the tuber par excellence, as it is the most cultivated and consumed around the world. The potato provides us mostly with water, carbohydrates in the form of starch, few fats and little protein, but of high quality. It also contains potassium, vitamin C and niacin, but after cooking many of these vitamins are lost. It should be one of the staple foods in our diet. Boiled, fried, baked, pureed, or combined with fish, vegetables, meat, eggs, mushrooms, etc., it is one of the foods with more culinary options.
