Jams are a preserve that allows us to enjoy seasonal fruits throughout the year. In Catalonia, there are numerous companies that make high quality jams using local fruits and vegetables and respecting artisanal processes.
Jam is the product prepared for cooking whole fruits, in pieces or crushed, to which sugar is added until a product of semi-liquid consistency is achieved. The amount of fruit used in this preparation cannot in any case be less than 30% of the weight of the finished product. The sugar content must be equal to or greater than 40%. In order for it to be considered extra jam, the amount of fruit used must be equal to or greater than 50% of the weight.
Jam is a product that allows different uses, apart from the traditional one, accompanying breakfasts and snacks. It has multiple uses in confectionery (fillings, toppings, sauces) and it is also increasingly common to find it in cooking dishes as part of sauces or as an accompaniment to some meats or cheeses.

Jams are marketed packaged in glass jars with an enamelled cap. The label should include a list of the ingredients, as well as the total sugar content (in grams) and the amount of fruit (in grams) per 100 g of finished product.
Jam is a product with a fairly high energy value, since its main component is sugar. However, given the small amount consumed, it is a product that can be regularly included in the diet. Due to the cooking process, a large amount of the vitamins that the fruit has are lost, although its fiber is preserved.
