The Brandy del Penedès, due to its aromatic richness and the finesse of its bouquet, is an ideal product for any time of the day
Brandy del Penedès is an a distilled beverage with reflections of old gold obtained from wine spirits that is aged in oak wood barrels. It has an intense and warm aroma, where you can find hints of nuts, with a very lively bouquet, as well as notes of spices such as cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. On the palate it is rich in tannins, evolving towards a persistent finish in the mouth in which the aromatic nuances of oak can be manifested, such as hints of caramel, toasted almonds, vanilla, roasted. It is dry, the result of its low sugar content. Distillation separates alcohols, esters, aldehydes and volatile elements from water and solid wine residues. In the case of Brandy del Penedès, both continuous and discontinuous distillation are used, with discontinuous distillation traditionally being the most widely used distillation. Discontinuous consists of a double distillation in copper stills that allows to obtain a colorless and very aromatic liquid. It is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum period of 6 months that can be extended for several years. Aging can be both static and dynamic but always ends in oak containers of maximum 500 liters, which allows greater contact with wood that provides aromatic nuances.
The first tests on brandy distillation in Catalonia date back to the fifteenth century and were the work of Arnau de Vilanova. At that time, white varieties were made, more acidic and dry, distilled in copper stills, which, for a long season, followed an aging process in oak barrels. Development in brandy distillation occurred in the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century, the commercialization of white, red, cava and brandy wines was extended, but the Catalan brandy brands would not develop a commercial production until after the Civil War (1936-1939).
Brandy is sold throughout Catalonia. This is a drink whose consumption is optimal for any time of the day.
