Wine DO Pla de Bages

These wines are a product of the local climate, which results in yields that are short but very high quality. The semi-mountainous Mediterranean microclimate with scant rainfall and major temperature swings, along with the rolling, poor soil, constitute the character of wines produced in the Pla de Bages. Dry stone huts are a distinctive feature of the local wine-growing culture.

The wines from this DO are made from varieties such as Ull de Llebre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sumoll (for the fruity, aromatic red and rosé wines), and Macabeu, Chardonnay and Picapoll (an emblematic local variety) for the light, exquisite whites. The average yield today stands at 12,000hl and there are 100 wine growers and 9 bottling companies.
