Wine DO Conca de BarberÓ

This area has a long history in wine producing. Surrounded by mountains and crossed by the River FrancolÝ, the microclimate is Mediterranean with a continental influence. Linked to vine growing, the modernist cellars, known as ‘wine cathedrals', are part of its cultural heritage and a major tourist attraction.

Wines from the Conca de BarberÓ are most noted for their freshness. The rosÚs, made with the autochthonous Trepat variety, make the area particularly unique. Its extremely fresh white wines made from Chardonnay are renowned, and those produced from Macabeu and Parellada are both consistent and light. With regard to the reds, these are made with Garnatxa Negra, Ull de Llebre and Trepat, and are beautifully mild. This DO has a surface area of 6,000ha; 1,300 wine growers; 18 bottling companies, and an average yield of 204,000hl.
