This is the designation of origin that is most widespread in Catalonia, covering various regions. One of its greatest assets is its innovative, experimental character, both in the field and in the cellar, in part thanks to the large number of grape varieties used in making these DO wines.

This DO includes strong, balanced red wines; light and fruity whites; rosé wine; the traditional liqueur wines; Mistelles; aged wine, and natural sweet wines. The white grape varieties cultivated are: Chardonnay, Garnatxa, Macabeu, Moscatell d'Alexandria, Parellada, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Xarel·lo, Chenin, Gewurztraminer, Malvasia, Malvasia de Sitges, Pedro Ximenez, Picapoll, Sumoll and Vinyater. The red grape varieties are: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnatxa Negra, Garnatxa Peluda, Merlot, Monastrell, Pinot Noir, Samsó, Trepat, Ull de Llebre, Garantxa Tintorera, Picapoll, Syrah and Sumoll. The vineyard surface area in the DO is 6,985ha, there are 1,684 wine growers, 91 bottling companies, and the average yield is 350,000hl.
