Tortell de Sant Antoni

The ‘tortell de Sant Antoni' ('O'-shaped cake) is very similar to the ‘Tortell de Reis' but is not decorated with crystallized fruit and almost always filled with marzipan. It is eaten on the 17th of January, the feast day of Saint Anthony the Abbot, patron of livestock.

The recipe is very similar to the Tortell de Reis but includes grated lemon rind and ground cinnamon. It is not decorated with crystallized fruit and the hidden surprise is a ceramic animal rather than a king or bean.
