Terra Alta protected designation of origin oil

The extra virgin olive oil from this protected designation of origin comes mainly from the Empeltre variety, with some use of other varieties such as Arbequina, Morruda and Farga. The climatic and land conditions of the Terra Alta have given rise to top quality extra virgin olive oils.

The virgin oil is made only from olives gathered straight from the tree, not those that have already fallen. Milling is carried out with physical means only, and takes place in the 24 hours following the harvest. All of this guarantees a maximum acidity of 0.5 and ensures that all of the fruit's qualities are preserved, including the flavour, aroma and the rest of its typical characteristics.

Terra Alta oil is sold in bottles with a maximum capacity of 5l. The entire process, from production to labelling, is carried out in the production area. A large proportion of this product is sold on the Catalan market, and the remainder is sold abroad. It can be acquired in shops all over Catalonia, particularly in establishments near to the production area.
