This sweet speciality is very common all over Catalonia and was probably first made in patisseries rather than in the home. For over a century it has been linked to various towns that have made it one of their typical desserts.

Made in a range of shapes (square or oval), the crumb is very light, the texture soft and it is lightly baked. The taste is not overpoweringly sweet and several variations exist. The basic recipe includes flour, eggs and sugar, with natural food flavourings being what give it its aromatic differences. A little sugar is usually sprinkled on top.
