Ripollesa sheep

This breed has arisen from crosses carried out centuries ago between the native sheep populations that once roamed the Central Pyrenees and the migratory herds of Merina sheep that were led there in the summer. Nowadays, most herds are situated in the north-eastern parts of Catalonia.

The Ripollesa breed is long, average in size, with highly characteristic pigmentation on the head and extremities. It adapts perfectly to various breeding systems. This makes it particularly suitable and profitable for numerous productive purposes, although it is primarily bred for its meat.
