Mones de Pasqua (Easter cake)

This cake (which was first called a mona in the 15th century) was traditionally made at home to celebrate Easter. The custom was for godfathers to give their godchildren a cake decorated with one hen's egg for each year of the child's age, every Easter Monday until the child first took Communion.
